Under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Western Region Development Council (WRDC) has been established to shape the "Al Gharbia's" future by placing the region and its people's interests at heart.

Following the re-development of the Al Gharbia local governance model, which began in 2004 and was completed by the formation of the Western Region Development Council and Western Region Municipality in early 2006. A decree was then issued in May 2006 and we were able to begin work in September 2006.

Improving the lives of the people in Al Gharbia is one of our main goals here at the Western Region Development Council. To achieve this, our strategy focuses on the development of better education, healthcare and infrastructure. These are the ingredients that encourage economic growth, an integral part of our plan to create greater prosperity for the region.

  • Our first priority was to reach out to residents; to listen to their concerns and build their trust in our abilities to create positive change.
  • Our second priority was to deliver results quickly while keeping a focus on our long term goals.
  • Through close co-operation with our Government and business partners we are making significant progress in delivering better local services for people in the Region.
  • We will be judged by our results, but we are already demonstrating that we have strong and
    proven determination to deliver on the vision expressed by our government.
  • Through leadership and partnership, we are taking bold first steps towards our goal.
